Origins
Lake Stevens is a community in Snohomish County, Washington, on the Puget Sound. It is about eight miles east of Everett. It is bordered by the cities of Marysville and Snohomish. It has a population of nearly 40,000, and is one of the largest cities in the area.
The city was originally settled in the late 1800s, but didn’t incorporate until the 1960s. The Rucker Brothers Timber Company built a sawmill on the lake in 1907, and it spurred early development.
In 1908, Lundeen Park opened. It was a nine-acre family park, with a swimming beach, basketball courts, picnicking, and a variety of sporting facilities. Lundeen Park also sponsored big-name dance bands on Saturday nights.
The Lundeens eventually built a 40,000-square-foot enclosed swimming area and a 60-foot bar. They began charging for use of their land. This marked the beginning of the resort industry on Lake Stevens. They were also known for the regulation-size baseball stadium they built.
Fishing opportunities
Lake Stevens, Washington, is an attractive location for fishing enthusiasts. This lake is located about six miles east of Everett in Snohomish County. A large freshwater lake, it’s filled with good fishing opportunities, especially for rainbow and largemouth bass.
It is also a popular spot for kokanee, a type of catfish that strike small colorful lures. There are several places to fish at Lake Stevens, including the Lundeen Park, Davies Beach, Sunset Cove, and Wyatt County Park. There are a few other spots to catch fish, too.
Lake Stevens is home to many species of fish. Some of them are largemouth bass, kokanee, rainbow trout, and perch. The locals are known for their fishing, and the Lake Stevens Kokanee Derby takes place when the fattest kokanee are available.

Swimming and wading area
Lundeen Park offers a variety of activities for families. It has a covered picnic area and a swimming and wading area. The nine-acre park is also a great place to observe wildlife. It has interpretive signs, a playground, and a small sandy beach.
While Lundeen Park’s beach area is secluded, you can still watch ducks, fish, and other water birds from the shore. The playground is a fun place for kids to play tag, and the picnic areas offer plenty of space to eat and relax.
Lundeen Park’s wading area is a popular spot for young swimmers. A small stream is just nearby, but it can become boggy during the late summer months.
Lundeen Park also has a covered picnic area that is available for rent. It has tables and electrical outlets. There is also a grill for barbecues.
Lundeen Park’s playground has a large structure for big kids, but it also has a smaller structure for toddlers. Both structures include slides and climbing.
Rucker Brothers sawmill
Lake Stevens, Washington is one of the fastest growing cities in Snohomish County. The population grew 18 percent from 2010 to 2018. It is now estimated that 40,000 people will live in the city by 2035.
The Rucker Brothers sawmill in Lundeen Park spurred early growth in Lake Stevens. The mill was first opened in 1907. It was destroyed by fire in 1925. But it was rebuilt. In addition, the firm built a railroad spur from Lake Stevens to Hartford, connecting the town to the Northern Pacific line.
By the 1960s, Lake Stevens had become a popular resort area. It was primarily a tourist town, with visitors arriving from nearby towns and resorts. The community was a mix of summer homes and winter-time resorts. It was also home to a shopping center.
The town was incorporated in late 1960. Its first mayor was Bill Hawkins. After a series of annexations, it grew into a city of approximately 25,000 residents by the 1990s. Check our next area of interest here.
